[ Cassian is perched just outside one of the furthest tents of the caravan, out of the blazing sun as he reads over the vellum scroll in his hands several times, trying to memorize it. Only once he is done so does he put it away and pull the silver pendant out of his clothes to send a message to the rest. ]

So, I am still fairly new here. Finding my feet.

Surely there is a way to be useful? A way to earn a credit or two?

I’ve heard that there are things in the desert, that can be found by those with sharp eyes. But are they even worth the retrieval, I wonder? Who would even want them?

Aye, it might be worth the retrieval, depending where we're going. My lady and I dug up some treasure on an island some time ago that we sold for a pretty sum in Serthica. It wasn't worth much to most people, but it was worth something to someone.

Did you have a buyer already in mind? Or just a chance discovery?

Back home I have contacts for this sort of thing - people to find who is looking for what and who it might be worth something to.

But the easiest way to get cheated is by trying to make deals when you don’t know anything about anything.

I'm afraid we had no one in mind. We sought a bit of coin and found more than we bargained for. Not many of us know anything about anything about this world, except our tasks here, and what we've seen, and what we know from our old lives. I knew how to fight long before I came here. But it might be that you could ask the people who aid us, or the people whose parties we join. You've made a lot of deals?

Kahl fix things, catch food... [He chuckles.] And people pay Kahl to be big and look tough. Brasso could look tough, maybe.

I imagine whoever mentioned those things in the desert might want them, because it's not like the lot of us are walking around eager to trade trinkets in this whole mess.

Until I know what’s a trinket or not, how can I know if they’re worth trying to trade?
