Hello, loves, bit of an update for those of you tracking after whatever has been tying white string around wrists and leaving all sorts of young males dead since before we arrived. Whatever killed Valtaz wasn't human, wasn't natural. The scent it left on him is the same one down I tracked down that new stair, back to the lakes in Gut's Bind.
Go take a look at what dead creature turned up on the shore. Whatever killed Vataz also killed that thing. Smells oily, burns the nose like some paints do.
( he sounds disturbed, but also: really, wants people to go look at the lake. his nose is a bit burnt out for the moment. )

Slowed by what smells like herbs and oil more recent than the rancid, bitter strange scent. Its decay wasn't unusual. Check again in a few days.

You want me sniffing him again, you can come poke around all this shoreline. Have you dealt with that black water tar stuff before?

Good, you can come not prevail down here at the shoreline. At least to see if it's the same stuff, so I can continue avoiding it.

Good division of labour, talk again after you look.

That was only last night, and now the creature turns up dead.

( there's a bit of growl in there too, largely because at this point, people here are creeping into as-close-as-he-gets-to-packmate territory, and them being used as bait rubs him immensely wrong. different from when they make their own stupid decisions about their actions. less out of control than whatever the lord of death does outside with his clawings, or the gates of hell provide with their evils. more personal. a down to earth kind of grotesque. )
If you came back now, you might see something different. Dark somethings in the water at the shore, and the smell. Some other creature did this.

Dark water? There was dark water in the Room of Seals, as well. I wonder if something that the paladins there were guarding against escaped and is our culprit.

Perhaps another trip to the Room of Seals is in order.

I don't know Stephen, I'm afraid. If he can get me in there, I'll have to make his acquaintance.

That's okay she'll figure out who to direct that frustration towards. ]
Which guards?

[Vi also wants to solve the mystery, not just find and beat the guards, right? Right?]
no subject
Bullshit. How are they getting their orders? They report to someone, so we find that someone. Whatever you tried, I'm sure I can be more convincing.
[ And hey, don't assume the worst! Caitlyn's seen her use other ways. ]

[She sighs. She really doesn't want this to escalate into violence, whether with Vi on the giving or the receiving end.]
I can describe them for you. But please, be careful.

[A short pause.]
I promise.
