How long has it been since we've been allowed to see the night sky? Has anyone managed to pry their windows open? Where I'm from, peaceful nights are often spent drinking beneath the moonlight.
[ There's the sound of clinking ceramic--clearly, he isn't letting anything stop him from drinking, at least.
It's frustrating that he hasn't been able to explore to his heart's content, that he's cut off from investigating the mysteries of this place. How much longer does he have, here in this place of relative peace? What sort of place will they go to next? Is it worth the risk to wait? (No. He knows it's not.)
A brief pause, and then he continues, though his breathing sounds...not ideal. ]
My apologies for the late introduction. My name is Zhou Xu; I arrived not long before we left the last city.
It's been brought to my attention that we have a number of healers among us. I seek, at your convenience, Wen Qing, Anduin, Nynaeve, and Hermione. Any others with an understanding of medicine, healing, or magic would be appreciated as well.
[ Far more open and blatant than he'd ever been before, but he's running out of time. He simply can't afford to be discrete any longer. Just before he ends the transmission, something occurs to him: ]
--Ah. I've heard that I've been here before. If you once knew me, I'd also like to meet. Thank you.

( He looks more sick too, without the shadows to hide it away. When Kexing isn't going to mention that.
And so, slyly. ) But are you asking me on a date, Ah-Xu? What about my reputation!
no subject
You don't want it?
no subject
( A child, eagerly protesting. )
You'll have to be a gentleman though. Aiya, I don't have any whores to glower at you if you don't here, what a shame!
no subject
Of the two of us, which one more often frequents the brothels?
no subject
I was working. Someone had to keep you in wine, Lord Zhou! You can't just bat your pretty eyes at everyone.
no subject
You don't have to work here. --Actually, where are you?
no subject
Bothering the cutlery once again. Why? Do you miss me?
no subject
Stop bothering the staff, Lao Wen. We're to have guests.
no subject
( Is he already abandoning his task to reroute through the house? Probably. )
no subject
I was under the impression you'd prefer to be present when I take experimental treatments.
no subject
( He is just covering up the terror by being silly, don't mind him. )
no subject
Come home and warm me some wine. If it works, we'll drink to celebrate. If it doesn't, we're no worse off.
no subject
( A sudden serious tilt to his tone, almost desperate. )
Ah-Xu, don't tempt fate with all your pessimism. It's almost as if you're eager to be free of me.
no subject
I'm being realistic.
[ He sighs. ]
Regardless. Multiple people have offered to help.
no subject
( That's what he thinks of your realism, Zhou Zishu. )
That's good though, isn't it? If we cover all our bases then there's surely a way.
no subject
Surely.
no subject
( There is a slight frantic energy to his voice now, bubbling away underneath the surface. )
There's a way.
no subject
Calm yourself, Lao Wen. It's fine. Come home.
no subject
I know, I know, I'm on my way.
no subject
Mm. Hermione knew me before, she says.
no subject
( Idly, for the sake of it. He's not worried, not by Hermoine at least. )
I think she mentioned knowing someone with my name before, but I can't be blamed for not interrogating her much. There was a spirit wailing in a bathtub and I was trying to find my way home to you, so. But she knows the Lan, they don't seem the kind to keep nefarious company.
( A beat. )
Apart from me, but we won't hold that against them.
no subject
Lao Wen.
no subject
What?
no subject
[ Should you really be agitating him before he goes off to try some experimental treatments, Wen Kexing?? ]
Philanthropist Wen should be kinder to himself.
no subject
I am nefarious, Ah-Xu. That's not a bad thing. Some might find it compelling, even.
( Isn't his villainy seductive? )
But that's not important right now, mm? Go and speak to Mistress Granger, I'll catch up.
