( Wrath has learned a lot of shit recently after months of trying to understand and exploring many different avenues, the most important being Wen Qing's inspections of Vannozza and his own investigations. He knows he has to inform the rest of the group before he makes his next move. That is the difference between living on this mortal plane instead of within Hell itself where he has far more power. There is a group to take into consideration.

At first, the video opens with nothing but a visual of the locked, hidden room. The video lingers on the altar beds, the potions and goblets of opiates, and then the piles of servant clothing and bird feathers in the corner. )

I'm in a secret, locked room within Bonaccorso's library. The Attaryl have been lengthening the lives of the Doxe for some time. Now they work on transferring a spirit from one body to the next without killing the original body and destroying one spirit in the process, which is the current result of their experimentation.

( He is quiet, serious, jaw locked though the camera is not on him. This is an affront to Death itself - his other name. )

Their efforts have come with a clear cost. ( He keeps the video pointed toward the pile of clothing and bird feathers, and it does not change course for the remainder of the video- let them see the cost. ) Many have died in this room.

I believe they mean to transfer Bonaccorso's spirit into Vannozza's body. Her spirit feels as if it is peeling from her body. The question is what to do with this truth.

( Ultimately, Wrath is ancient and powerful, and he will go with what he feels is best because mortals are fallible, but he wants to know what the group thinks. )

( Wrath hears the fury along with the heartbreak. He has kneeled down near the clothing to see if there are any further clues within them, but of course there isn't. There is a reason they were chosen. He grimaces. )

If we're taking a vote, put a stop to it of course. No one deserves to have their body stolen from them.

That will be the ultimate goal assuming we find a way. Body stolen, spirit destroyed, and many have died for the sake of this unnatural and imbalanced process. I believe one of these cups have the opiates you mentioned previously. ( Filled to the brim with them. He grimaces at the smell. )

It... do you know if she is aware of such plans?

I do not believe she is, no. She is aware she has had an affliction since she was young, which I believe is separate from what is actually happening with her spirit. ( though it's hard to say that for certain either. he won't know unless they can stop her spirit from being siphoned )

This must be what Jon had to meet with him over, given the timing. She wants to ask if that is indeed the case, but is reluctant to admit to having any connection to Jon yet, and it doesn't matter much. This has been...quite a tiring day, and it likely shows in her weary and concerned expression when she turns on the video. He already knows who she is, and she's very keen on seeing more clues behind him if she can, even though it's entirely unpleasant. What she saw that night must have been a servant's body, after all...

She still isn't comfortable sharing her thoughts, or her face, where all can see. There are those more experienced than her who will likely know a sturdier path, but she doesn't want to be completely silent, either. ]

Would that not be akin to...dying? If what you say is true, then is there anything we can do? I suppose our path would depend on if she is a willing partner in this, or a victim.

[ The answer seems obvious. Alayne is aware that lunatics very much exist, but she's never known one with a death wish. ]

Since I cannot imagine anyone doing this by choice, then if it were made known to her, she might be willing to accept protection from whomever amongst us is able to defend her. If she is kept far from him, would that be enough?

( Wrath looks to her face with a tense expression on his own. He remains in the room still, searching. If someone were to come, he could transvenio out before they could find him. ) Her spirit would be destroyed, and her body would be taken over by someone else. ( Wrath does not know for certain if it is Bonaccorso but it does seem suspect given the locked room within his library. ) So it is different than death, but I... suppose there is not really an afterlife in this world regardless.

( Until they are put to rest in some way, which Wrath has not fully wrapped his head around what that means. It is not like Hell in the slightest. The eradication of the other soul that the Attaryl mentioned when speaking of the process did not feel peaceful at all. )

We will have to find a way to interrupt or stop the process. She is able to command the soldiers who work in the palace so I have no doubt she would be able to gain protection if she realized who and what she had to be protected from.

Lady Vannozza seems to believe that she can be healed by my dragon.

He had no such powers in my world, but perhaps it is different here? It might help her?

( Dragons exist in Hell, but he had yet to see one here in Taravast or within their group. She, and her dragon, must be relatively new. )

Coming into this world tends to take powers away or weaken them, and it has never given new ones as far as I have heard so I find it unlikely. She has been desperate for a cure for some time.

Does Vannozza know this is happening to her? Did she agree to this?

No. I don't believe so. It's been made abundantly clear to me that she wants to live, and this process would eradicate what remains of her spirit and steal her current body from her. ( her body that is possessed by death or appears to be- wrath wonders if the attaryl realize that. )

You've got to hand it to him, that's thinking outside the box. How did you find it? Did someone tip you off?

I don't have confirmation it is Bonaccorso they mean to transfer, but is is likely. They may have another soul who is one of their own. The Attaryl have been extending his life for some time, which means they likely have the space to practice whatever they wish here without much question.

The Merchant sent a recent arrival with a key and message for Wen Qing and I. I have no idea how he knew that we had been looking into her affliction or where to send us next.

[ The Attaryl have been doing this... that's worse than anything he suspected. He's sick thinking he's been promoting them all this time. He should have dug deeper when he's been trying to pick out scant bits of their conversations.

I am concerned about telling her what magic users have been doing to her after her recent reaction to all necromancers and those who have powers. She may put in new rules and regulations, but this is an affront to freewill and death itself. ( It's necessary to tell her and perhaps her cousin as well, but he means to be careful about it - remind her that it is magic that can stop her spirit from deteriorating further and magic that can stop the undead threat that still exists. )

I knew we should've taken the grimoires with us. Not that I trust them to not have the spells and rituals memorised, if they've practised them as often as you have found.

Gods - does Vannozza know? Surely if she does not, we tell her.

It appears the spirit transfering spells are still new and experimental, which explains the many dead as they attempt to do the unnatural without cost. But I imagine they have it written elsewhere - possibly somewhere in the palace itself.

I don't think she does, and I do believe that will be the ultimate goal despite my concern of what her reaction will be. She is already cataloging every individual with powers and killing all active necromancers without exception after what occurred so I mean to proceed carefully.

Oh, you don't need to believe it, it's exactly what they're intending. Lily and I could guess as much from what we've just learned the night before, but as it is—the Attaryl are paid well to do as they do, and they've been emptying Lady Vannozza for some time. She can't be refilled by her own missing parts, but we can attempt to strengthen her spirit's binding to her body, and to ward her against outside spirits invading.

Which, for better and worse, I do have experience with. She needs to be told, and I don't mind the telling, but she's possibly... going to take that less well, and I wonder if we shouldn't have someone with... a prettier face than ours to do the telling.

Wen Qing, if only for being likewise asked and entrusted with Lady Vanozza's health... perhaps you both can tell her. Or I can, if you want a reincarnated fertility goddess delivering the news of her spiritual death and rebirth if she's not taking immediate action, ones that our ragtag group of world-upsetters can assist with.

( One would think Bonaccorso would not have to pay with all else he has to offer the Attaryl with political power and protection, but perhaps it simply adds to the pot. They also would not likely be willing to risk themselves without some type of political protection, and Bonaccorso is the one who could offer that to them. It is good to know they are being paid and not simply acting in service of themselves, which was also a possibility.

The information is useful as is the course of action. He is used to dealing in souls in a different way. )

I agree in this overall course of action. I do not have experience with strengthening a spirits bond, but I do with wards.

( If nothing else, he's a fountain of demonic magic that can be used as needed. )

I believe she... trusts me as well. I have been working with her on this for some time, and she appears at least to listen to me even when I tell her something she does not want to hear. Wen Qing and I can go together to tell her, and perhaps her cousin as well. ( Her affliction began when he was very sick and then miraculously healed as a child. )

She is already clearly distrustful of magic users, and this will not help so we will have to be careful in the telling.

They cannot transfer a dead man's spirit.

Spirits tend to linger here beyond death, but it did seem they have only attempted with living bodies. Still we can stop him without having to resort to assassination.

... I don't often let myself be taken by sentimentality where politics are concerned, but I truly do believe that tis city would do better with Lady Vannozza at the helm, and I do not wish to see her sacrificed against her will.

You may want to keep your connection maintained with those we had dinner with. They may let more slip to you, especially if they begin to feel emboldened given their position and aid to Bonaccarso.

So long as she does not take to treating magic users even worse after this incident, she is at least far more capable than her cousin. ( But Wrath realizes that is a problem for after this first one is solved. ) She will be informed as soon as possible. I would feel more accomplished if there was a way to destroy the dark magic the Attaryl have been using which result in the deaths of so many.

Why do people wish for immortality? It really is not all it's cracked up to be...

I am not sure of what help I can be. I can do talismans or lend some spiritual power, and Ruoye can act as a barrier for both magic and physical if needed, but I don't have enough knowledge of this type of magic to know how to reverse it or stop it.

( Five had mentioned someone within their group who was many centuries old. He can only surmise this is who he meant. He has seen no one else speak of immortality so cavalierly. )

Mortals are certainly not built for it. But many will do near anything for power regardless of the cost. The Doxe have been sacrificing lives to extend their own for a very long time.

( Humans die so quickly after all. ) Wei Wuxian knows what to do. Unfortunately, it cannot be reversed, but we should be able to stop it. You say you have spiritual power?
